Performance and Trending

CloudScape now provides your organization with 360-degree insight into the daily performance and health of your IT environment, application stacks, and devices. Begin your analysis at the environment level and quickly understand and compare what applications need attention and what are operating as expected.

Analytics on performance issues encountered within a stack are reported by device and issue on the Application Stack view. Detailed performance metrics for a single device is presented on the Device Metrics view.

The rich historical trending capability of Performance and Trending will help your team track trends over time and understand the impact of changes in your environment.

Performance and Trending for the

The IT Environment view provides a summary level comparison of the performance and health of application stacks within the environment. The scores are updated daily and the user can toggle between a predefined set of historical time periods. The scope of the application stacks displayed in the view can be sliced and diced using tags, for example display only the application stacks by owner.

How are application stacks performing compared to their peers?

The stack score quadrants display the relative performance over time.

The Score Trend quadrant displays the health of an application stack relative to its peers and its change over the selected time-period. In this example, the Customer Web Application stack experienced decreasing trend in its health over the past 30 days. Accordingly, we recommend that this stack is closely watched for any additional performance impacts.

How are application stacks performing compared to their peers?

The Application Score quadrant displays the health of an application stack relative to its peers distinguished by its predominant mix of internal and external clients. An external client is one that is found outside the specified network and an internal client is one found inside the specified network. In this example, the stack is classified as external since most of the communication was found to be with external clients - 204,252 external vs. 22 internal.

How are my application stacks performing over time?

Time series graphs in four key areas are included that provide the user with historical performance. These key areas are: Top performing, Bottom performing, Improving and Declining application stacks.

The Application Stack view provides a comparison of the performance and health of devices within a stack. This view highlights the issues that are most prevalent within the stack and the most impacted devices to enable the user to focus on the areas that are most critical.

Navigate to the Application Stack view

Navigate to the Application Stack view of a specific stack from the time series graphs by clicking on the graph icon    Performance and Trending Graph Iconin the legend to the right. You can also navigate to the Application Stack view for a specific stack by clicking on the stack’s name on the “All Application Stacks” table, which lists the details about every stack in your IT environment.

How are my devices performing over time?

All licensed devices in the selected stack are trended by score over the selected time period.

The Device Metrics view provides a deep-dive into the performance of a device and reports on key metrics for the specified time-period and on an aggregated hourly basis. The Device Details view provides the user with a device-level lens for both inventory and performance analytics on the selected device. Inventory analytics is displayed across the analytics banner at the top of the page. Performance analytics is collected hourly and presented as both a time series trend and as a snapshot of performance on an hourly basis over a typical day.

Navigate to the Device Details View

Performance details of a device are available by clicking on the device name in the Current Issue Details table. Alternatively, navigate to the Device Metric view and use the filter control to find a device to display.

What issues are occurring on each device?

A table of the issues per device is available for a detailed analysis. The table includes details about each issue and its score on the device the issue was seen.

About the table fields:
• Current device score – the most recent overall device score
• Instance – The most granular level that issues are measured. Since a device can have more than one hard drive, or other similar item, the 'instance' is the unique identifier for each of the items where an issue is measured.
• Issue – the name of the issue
• Issue description – the description of the issue
• Issue score – the score of the issue on the device

What are the core device specifications?

The inventory information collected on each device is reported in the analytics banner. The core device specifications include CPU, CPU speed, memory, hard drives, interface and IP address. The name of the device along with device type and operating system is reported. A count of the issues found on the device is displayed as color coded icons. The issue types from left to right are: performance, reliability and scalability.

What is the performance on a typical day?

The typical day chart aggregates the metric for each hour of the day for the selected time-period. Both the average and maximum values for the hour are plotted. In the example below the average CPU at 1300 hours UTC for the past 30 days is 1,064.7 MHz and the maximum CPU at the same time and period is 4,310.0 MHz.

Selecting instances allows you to drill down to specific processors on a CPU or ports on a network interface, for example.

How has the device performed over the past month?

The performance of a metric is trended in the time series graph for the selected time-period. The hourly min, max and average values are plotted across time. To zoom into a more granular time range, drag a box around a portion time-series.
